• Joseph Galliera, BS ME, 3D CAD, CFD & FEA Expert

In early 2020, after learning of the SES project and reviewing its patent drawings, Dassault’s leading SOLIDWORKS® flow simulation expert, Mr. Galliera, decided to break his 17-year tenure with Dassault and join SES to work on the System full-time as a paid member. Mr. Galliera has over 28 years of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering experience starting with his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and as a Graduate Researcher at NASA Langley Research Center. Mr. Galliera has always had an interest in the energy industry and has performed design work on a turbine system and led its fluid dynamics studies. Galliera conducted his own analysis of the System and verified and validated its performance and functionality. Mr. Galliera is a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) expert. CFD is used to perform testing that exceeds the capabilities of wind tunnels and water tanks, and is not limited by the constraints of such testing. FEA is used to test the strength and deflection of a part or assembly under a given load or other set of physical conditions, to determine materials properties, and optimal design for weight, strength and cost.

Mr. Galliera’s CFD and FEA work and training of engineering experts has benefited:

Government Agencies including NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, FBI, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Academia including MIT, Penn State, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Carnegie Mellon, Rutgers, Johns Hopkins, Villanova, Georgia Tech and the University of Maryland.

Industry including GE Global Research, United Technologies, General Dynamics, Raytheon, Northrup Grumman, Honeywell, BAE Systems, Goodrich Corp., Philips Lighting, Osram, GlaxoSmithKline, Pyrex, Michelin, Baker Hughes, Boston Scientific, Delta Airlines, and Walt Disney Imagineering.

As a worldwide leading expert in SOLIDWORKS® CFD (flow simulation) and FEA, Mr. Galliera is a tremendous asset to SES and his excitement to be involved with the project further validates the System’s technology and the SES business plan.

“I’ve always wanted to use my engineering knowledge and design skills to make a significant impact in the world, and because energy touches everything, it is the perfect industry in which to work. I see how Steve came up with a simple approach to the design of the System resulting in an enormous gain just by observing and copying nature. I want to work with the best people on the hardest problems to create and explore solutions to those problems. I also want to be part of a company where I’m treated as a person with value, and as part of a family, rather than just a number. Working to advance technology that improves people’s lives and the world has been a lifelong goal.”
